You may use Keka, The Unarchiver, or any of your preferred applications.
We recommend you use Keka ↗, here are the steps:
- Set Keka as the default extraction application.
- Right-click on the 7z file you want to open.
- Click "Extract using Keka".
IMPORTANT ❗
If you are using Mac OS, you may encounter an issue when extracting password protected 7z files using the built-in Archive Utility extractor app, it may keep asking you for password (as if you have input the wrong password) without any failure message. That is because the built-in app does not support extracting password protected 7z files. It is recommended to install another app that properly supports 7z files like what we have mentioned above.
💡 What are 7z files?
The 7z file extension is a compressed archive format created with 7-zip open-source software. One benefit of using the 7z file extension is that it can split larger files into several smaller parts. This is especially helpful when transferring or downloading larger folders and files. 7z file extension used method called LZMA to reduce file size while preserving quality.
